If you’re an avid Pulp Fiction watcher or know people who avidly watch the movie and religiously quote it the same way those people who have convinced themselves they’re some self righteous pariahs quote the Bible then you can easily finish this sentence and if you can’t finish this sentence then I implore of you to watch Pulp Fiction. This blog post however isn’t about Pulp Fiction or how great Quentin Tarantino is as a writer. This is about another cross in my life I’ve been given to carry with pride as much as I don’t want to at times. People who know me personally already know where this blog is going .
Walking around or hanging round in my usual spots I spend most of my time in my head either processing my thoughts or intently focused on what ever I’m doing at that current moment. Not many things can take me out of my head in those moments except for interactions with others and one other thing. Whether it be church, my usual tuesday night bar, working at camp or any place where I have a lot of interactions with people. I’m minding my own business and then all of a sudden it happens, you find that really good looking girl that not only catches your attention but her personality is more than worth giving her a chance and suddenly you mutter the same lines you normally would when this type of thing happens, “Well shit, here we go again”.
Right now some of you are probably confused as to what I may be alluding to for this next legendary entry and others probably already know what I’m going to be ranting about. To get the concept across however, I will have to educate you on a scenario from one of my favorite video games of all time that will hopefully serve as the perfect analogy for tonight’s rant.
Imagine a world where in order to get to where you needed to everyone around you simply had to ride an elevator while you on the other hand constantly had to take the stairs because for you the elevator was always broken. Suddenly the climb up those stairs became the equivalent of climbing Mount Everest without a map and to add insult to injury the weather gets turbulent and before you know it you’re left to your own device to weather the storm because not many people feel that they can help you out of the shithole that life has graciously decided it needed to throw you in. Take this wonderfully horrific analogy and you have my life in the jungle known as an education.
Hello world, yours truly is back with another epic blog post but in order for you guys to truly understand this blog post I’ll need you all to watch a short little video. I know what you’re thinking, “ugh why is he making us do so much work just to understand a simple post, why can’t he quit being lazy and explain it to us”? For the longest time I’ve tried to find a song that describes my life in a nutshell. I’ve found a few that have come close but none of them really hit the nail on the head until now. I was listening through the albums of Garbage, a band from my favorite year of music (90s baby!!!!!!!!!) when I stumbled upon a song from their most recent album that felt as if it were written for me and all the other outcasts of society. As I listened through the song I suddenly felt a strong connection with the lyrics, especially during the second verse. In a nutshell the song is about being different from the rest of society and how different is always better. Now I’m not going to break down the entire song word for word but I will choose some sections of the song and explain the significance of the said section in my life.
I’m going to talk about a subject that many Autism Speaks supporters may hate me for by the time this is done. Now you’re probably wondering why a person like me would have such strong feelings against well known organization that is very active with getting awareness about Autism out there. Tell me something people, of all the time you’ve followed the organization for those who do how often do you actually see something on their page posted by someone on the higher functioning end of the spectrum? If your answer is “almost never” or it consists of someone named “Kerry Margo” then you’re right on the money. Before I continue allow me to explain who Kerry Margo is.
Hello world, The Epic Autistic is back from another epic week with Easter Seals’ Explorers Camp. Once again it was a phenomenal week that helped me grow as a person and a leader. This year was particularly interesting in the sense that I got a very imaginative camper who at times was a mirror image of me in my youth. Unfortunately it was through him that I was once again reminded of the harsh realities of being different.
Hi world, if you’ve gotten this Facebook, WordPress or Twitter notification then you know what time it is. Another epic blog post from your neighborhood Epic Autistic. I have left Boston to get myself ready for one of my favorite activities of the year, EXPLORERS CAMP!!!!!!! Now for those who didn’t read my previous blog posts or need a refresher, Explorers Camp is a one week overnight camp for youth on the Autism Spectrum. Of all the things I do during the summer it is one of the activities that makes my summer complete and probably the most challenging yet rewarding week ill do all year. Nothing can top the joy that as catering to children on the Autism Spectrum, not even the best movie or video game ever. I’m still at a cross roads of whether I should make a permanent career of this or continue with trying to be a full time video game music composer but I’ll hopefully figure that out within a decent time frame.
